Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL112-G is a single-gang, two-way wall switch from the Inora range, finished in Classic Grey. Its 20AX rating makes it suitable for controlling compatible lighting circuits, including certain inductive or fluorescent lighting loads, subject to ABB's technical data and the connected load specifications. It is designed for residential, commercial and construction projects requiring reliable switching with a modern grey finish.

One gang means the switch has one operating rocker for controlling one circuit. Two way means the same lighting circuit can be controlled from two different switch locations when the BL112-G is paired with another compatible two-way switch. The 20AX designation indicates a 20-ampere switch rating that also accounts for specific lighting loads with higher switching inrush currents. Always confirm the actual load type and circuit design before installation.

This switch is suitable for indoor lighting control in villas, apartments, offices, hotels, retail units and other commercial or residential buildings. Typical applications include staircases, corridors, bedrooms, halls and rooms with two entrances, where users need to operate one light or lighting circuit from two locations. Suitability depends on the electrical load, enclosure, wiring system and site conditions.

A two-way switch can generally be wired to perform a one-way switching function by using the common terminal and one switched terminal. However, the final wiring arrangement must follow the terminal markings and ABB installation instructions. Installation should be completed and tested by a qualified electrician, particularly on UAE construction projects subject to consultant or authority approval.

For a standard two-way circuit, the common and traveller conductors are connected between two compatible two-way switches according to the approved wiring diagram. The power supply must be isolated and verified as de-energised before work begins. The electrician should use a compatible flush box, maintain correct conductor identification, tighten terminals to the manufacturer's specified torque, fit the switch securely and complete continuity, insulation resistance, polarity and functional testing before energising the circuit.

The switch should be fitted using an ABB Inora-compatible frame, plate and electrical back box of the correct dimensions and mounting configuration. Required box depth depends on conductor size, cable quantity, terminal space and the installation method. Check the product datasheet and selected accessories before procurement because compatibility should not be assumed from appearance alone.

It may be used with compatible LED lighting circuits, but LED drivers can produce significant inrush current that is not represented by steady-state wattage alone. The electrician or lighting designer should check the driver's inrush current, power factor, number of fittings and ABB's permitted load data. For large LED loads or multiple drivers, a suitably rated contactor or relay may be required instead of switching the full load directly.

The BL112-G is relevant to UAE villas, apartments, offices and fit-out projects where a 20AX, one-gang, two-way indoor switch is specified. Before approval or installation, confirm that the complete switch assembly, technical certification and wiring arrangement meet the project specifications and the requirements of the applicable UAE electricity authority, municipality, consultant and current electrical regulations.

Do not use the switch in exposed outdoor, wash-down, dusty or wet locations unless the complete installed assembly has an enclosure with an appropriate verified IP rating for the environment. For bathrooms, balconies, gardens, plant areas or outdoor kitchens, the location, ingress protection, electrical zones and protective measures must comply with the project design and applicable UAE regulations.

The BL112-G is primarily intended for compatible switching applications, especially lighting control. A 20AX marking does not automatically make it suitable as an isolator or controller for air conditioners, water heaters, pumps, motors or socket circuits. Such equipment may require a double-pole isolator, fused connection unit, contactor or dedicated control device selected according to load current, starting current and local regulations.

Cable size cannot be selected from the switch rating alone. It must be determined from the circuit design, protective device rating, load, installation method, ambient temperature, grouping, voltage drop and terminal capacity. A qualified electrical engineer or electrician should select the conductor size in accordance with approved project specifications, ABB terminal data and applicable UAE wiring requirements.

The electrician should verify secure mounting, correct terminal connections, conductor identification, earth continuity where applicable, terminal tightness and smooth rocker operation. The circuit should then undergo the required continuity, insulation resistance, polarity and functional tests. For a two-way arrangement, the light must operate correctly from both switch positions, and test records should be included in the project's electrical inspection documentation.
