Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL236 is a white, 13A double socket outlet designed to provide two plug-in points for compatible 13A appliances. It features switched control, a red rocker for clear identification and a neon indicator for improved visual status indication. It is suitable for residential, commercial and construction projects where a clearly identifiable power outlet is required.

SP means single pole. A single-pole switch normally disconnects the live conductor when switched off, while the neutral remains connected. The socket must be correctly wired, earthed and protected by the appropriate circuit protective device. Project specifications should be checked where double-pole isolation is required.

The red rocker makes the switched outlet easy to identify, which can be useful for dedicated equipment, controlled circuits, maintenance points or applications requiring visible differentiation from standard sockets. The neon indicator provides a visual indication associated with the switch or supply status, depending on the product's internal configuration. Confirm the exact neon operation from the ABB wiring diagram before installation.

A 13A socket format is widely used in UAE villas, apartments, offices, shops and other buildings that use British-style plugs. Suitability must still be confirmed against the approved project specification, local authority requirements and the applicable wiring regulations. The installer should verify the product's certification, voltage rating, frequency, socket standard and authority approval before use.

Both socket outlets may generally be used simultaneously, but the connected load must remain within the rating of the socket assembly, final circuit and protective device. The 13A marking should not be interpreted as permission to overload the circuit. High-load appliances should be assessed individually, and extension adaptors or multi-plug devices should not be used to exceed the designed circuit capacity.

Installation should be completed by a qualified electrician. The supply must first be isolated, locked out where required and proven dead. The live, neutral and protective earth conductors should then be connected to the correctly marked terminals in accordance with the ABB wiring instructions. Terminal screws must be tightened to the manufacturer's specified torque, conductors must not be trapped or exposed, and the faceplate should be securely aligned with a compatible back box.

Use a back box that matches the socket's plate dimensions, fixing-centre arrangement and required wiring depth. Adequate depth is important for safe conductor bending, terminal clearance and cable management, particularly where larger conductors or multiple cables enter the box. Check the ABB BL236 dimensional drawing and the selected concealed or surface-mounted box before installation.

Cable size and protective-device selection depend on the circuit design, installation method, ambient temperature, grouping, cable length, voltage drop and prospective fault current. UAE projects commonly use ring or radial final circuits, but the correct conductor size and MCB or RCBO rating must be determined by a qualified electrical designer or electrician in accordance with applicable regulations and authority requirements.

Yes. The protective earth conductor must be connected to the designated earth terminal, and any metallic back box should be bonded where required by the installation design and applicable regulations. Earth continuity and fault-loop performance should be tested before the outlet is energised.

This product should be treated as an indoor socket unless ABB documentation confirms a suitable IP rating and environmental classification. In kitchens, wet areas, bathrooms, balconies, gardens, workshops or dusty construction locations, the outlet must be positioned outside restricted zones and provided with suitable RCD or RCBO protection and an appropriately rated enclosure where required. It should not be directly exposed to water, condensation, dust or extreme heat.

The socket can be considered for villas, apartment buildings, offices, retail spaces, plant rooms, workshops and other indoor construction applications. Its red rocker is useful where a socket must be visually distinguished, such as for dedicated equipment, maintenance supplies or project-specific circuits. It must not be treated as an emergency, fire-alarm, UPS or essential-services outlet unless the electrical design and identification scheme specifically approve that use.

Before handover, the electrician should inspect conductor termination, polarity, protective conductor continuity, insulation resistance and terminal security. The completed circuit should also be tested for the required fault protection and RCD or RCBO operation where applicable. Finally, both switches, socket contacts and the neon indication should be functionally checked, with test results recorded as required by the project documentation.

It should only supply equipment whose plug, operating current and starting current are compatible with the socket and circuit rating. Fixed air conditioners, water heaters, pumps, cookers and other high-load appliances often require dedicated isolators, connection units or hard-wired circuits rather than a standard 13A socket. Follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions and the approved electrical load schedule.

Keep the faceplate clean and dry, using a soft cloth without abrasive or solvent-based cleaners. Periodically check for heat discoloration, cracking, loose mounting, buzzing, damaged shutters, weak plug retention or abnormal neon behaviour. If any defect or overheating is observed, isolate the circuit and arrange inspection by a qualified electrician; do not continue using the outlet.

Confirm the complete model number BL236, 13A rating, single-pole switching arrangement, number of outlets, red-rocker identification, neon function, white finish, plate dimensions, back-box compatibility and required approvals. For consultant-led UAE projects, compare the ABB technical datasheet and compliance documentation with the approved material submittal before procurement or installation.
