Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL115-G is a two-gang, two-way wall switch designed to control two separate lighting circuits from one switch position. Each circuit can also be paired with another compatible two-way switch for control from two locations. Its 20AX rating makes it suitable for demanding lighting applications, while the Classic Grey finish complements modern residential, commercial and hospitality interiors.

Two gang means the switch has two independently operated rockers for two separate circuits. Two way means each rocker can be wired with another two-way switch to control the same light from two locations. The 20AX designation indicates a 20-ampere switch rating that also accounts for the higher inrush currents associated with certain fluorescent, inductive and electronic lighting loads. Actual connected loads must remain within ABB's published limits and the circuit design requirements.

This switch is suitable for indoor lighting control in villas, apartments, offices, retail units, hotels and other commercial buildings. Typical applications include controlling staircase, corridor, bedroom, living-room or entrance lighting from two locations. Its two-gang format allows two independent lighting zones to be managed from one wall position.

The switch is relevant to UAE projects using standard low-voltage AC lighting systems, commonly supplied at approximately 230 V and 50 Hz. Selection and installation should comply with the applicable requirements of the local authority, such as DEWA, ADDC or the relevant emirate-level utility, together with project specifications and current UAE electrical regulations. The installer should confirm the product's voltage, terminal capacity and conformity documentation from the ABB datasheet before approval.

Each gang normally has a common terminal and two switched or traveller terminals. For two-location control, the corresponding traveller terminals are connected between two compatible two-way switches, with the permanent live and switched live terminated according to the approved wiring diagram. The neutral normally runs directly to the light fitting rather than through a conventional mechanical switch. Wiring must follow the terminal markings supplied by ABB and should be completed only after isolating and proving the circuit dead.

Installation should be carried out by a qualified and locally authorised electrician. The electrician must isolate the supply, verify absence of voltage, identify conductors correctly, use suitable cable sizes, tighten terminals to the manufacturer's requirements and test the completed circuit. Functional testing, polarity checks, insulation testing and protective-device verification should form part of the installation process where required by the project and local regulations.

Use a wall box that matches the switch plate dimensions, fixing centres and required installation depth specified for the ABB Inora range. The box must provide enough room for conductors to bend without strain, especially where two-way traveller wiring increases cable quantity. For construction projects, confirm compatibility with the selected flush or surface-mounted box before wall finishing, and keep the box level and free from plaster or debris.

It can be used in many LED lighting circuits, but compatibility depends on the LED driver and its startup or inrush current rather than wattage alone. Multiple LED drivers may produce a brief current significantly higher than their normal operating load. The electrical designer should check ABB's permitted LED load data and the driver manufacturer's inrush specifications, and use a suitably rated contactor or relay if the combined load exceeds the switch's direct switching capability.

Yes. Its two-way switching arrangement is well suited to staircases, corridors, bedrooms and rooms with two entrances, where the same lighting circuit must be operated from either end. Because the unit has two gangs, it can provide two-location control for two independent lighting circuits when installed with a second compatible two-gang, two-way switch and correctly wired traveller conductors.

The BL115-G is primarily intended for switching suitable lighting circuits. Motor, fan and other inductive loads can have high starting currents and may require a dedicated isolator, fan controller, relay or contactor. Do not select the switch based only on the appliance's running current; consult the ABB technical data and the equipment manufacturer's requirements before using it with any non-lighting load.

Do not assume that this standard wall switch is weatherproof or suitable for wet locations unless the ABB documentation states an appropriate IP rating. In UAE bathrooms, balconies, gardens, plant areas and other locations exposed to water, dust or humidity, use an enclosure or accessory with an IP rating appropriate to the installation zone and environmental conditions. Outdoor installations must also account for heat, UV exposure and dust.

Contractors should confirm the approved material submittal, model number BL115-G, finish, switch function, electrical rating, mounting-box compatibility, cable capacity and circuit load. They should also coordinate switch locations and mounting heights with architectural drawings, verify that two-way routes include the required traveller conductors, and protect installed accessories during painting and finishing. Final testing and labelling should follow the project's inspection and commissioning procedures.

A conventional mechanical two-way switch generally switches the live conductor and does not require a neutral connection at the switch mechanism. However, a neutral may still be provided in the wall box where required by the project design or for future smart controls. The electrician must follow the ABB wiring diagram and local wiring requirements rather than relying on conductor colour alone.

Isolate the circuit before inspection or maintenance. Clean the visible surface with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive pads, solvents and aggressive chemical cleaners that could damage the Classic Grey finish. If a rocker becomes loose, operates intermittently, shows heat discolouration or produces unusual sounds, stop using the circuit and have a qualified electrician inspect the terminals, load and switch condition.
