Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL107-PG is a three-gang, two-way wall switch designed to control three separate lighting circuits from one location. Each gang can also form part of a two-way switching arrangement, allowing the same circuit to be operated from two different points. It has a 10AX rating and a royal gold finish, making it suitable for residential, hospitality, office and commercial interiors in the UAE.

Three gang means the switch contains three independent rocker controls on one faceplate. Two way means each rocker can be connected to a second compatible two-way switch so that one lighting circuit can be controlled from two locations. It may also be wired for conventional one-way operation where control is required from only one point.

The 10AX rating indicates that the switch is designed for lighting circuits up to its stated rating, including loads that may create higher switching currents than simple resistive loads. Suitability for LED drivers, fluorescent fittings, contactors or other inductive equipment must still be checked against the connected load, inrush current and ABB technical guidance. The circuit protective device and cable size must be selected independently by a qualified electrician.

Yes. Its three independent gangs can control three separate lighting circuits or zones, such as a main light, decorative lighting and outdoor lighting. It may also operate lights in adjacent rooms when the wiring layout permits. Each circuit must remain within the switch rating and comply with the approved electrical design.

This configuration is commonly installed in villas, apartments, hotels, offices and retail interiors. Typical locations include entrances, corridors, staircases, bedrooms and open-plan living areas where several lighting zones require centralized control. Two-way operation is especially useful at opposite ends of corridors, at both floors of a staircase or near a room entrance and bedside.

Yes. A two-way switch mechanism can normally be wired as a one-way switch by using the common terminal and one switched terminal on each gang. This provides flexibility when some or all circuits need control from only one location. Terminal identification should be confirmed on the product, and installation should follow the manufacturer's wiring information.

Installation should begin by isolating the circuit at the distribution board, locking out the supply where required and verifying that conductors are dead with an approved tester. A qualified electrician should identify the common and traveller conductors, connect each gang according to the terminal markings, tighten terminals to the specified torque, arrange the wires without excessive bending and secure the switch to a compatible concealed or surface box. The circuit should then be inspected and electrically tested before energization.

A standard mechanical switch generally switches the live conductor and does not normally require a neutral connection for its own operation. However, the actual wiring arrangement depends on the circuit design, local requirements and any connected accessories. Neutral conductors must not be connected to switch terminals unless specifically required by the manufacturer's instructions.

It may be used with compatible LED lighting, but the total wattage alone is not enough to confirm suitability. LED drivers can produce a high inrush current when switched on, particularly when several fittings are connected to one gang. The electrician should check the driver specifications, number of luminaires, switching current and any ABB load limitations; a suitably rated contactor may be needed for large lighting groups.

The BL107-PG is primarily intended for lighting control. It should not be selected for high-load appliances, water heaters, air-conditioning equipment or general socket circuits solely because it carries a 10AX rating. Fans, motors and other equipment can have different starting-current and isolation requirements, so an appropriately rated switch, isolator or contactor should be specified by the electrical designer.

The royal gold finish complements luxury villas, hotel rooms, majlis areas, restaurants and premium commercial interiors. To maintain its appearance, clean the faceplate with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth after isolating the circuit. Avoid abrasive pads, solvents, strong chemicals and wet cleaning methods that may mark the decorative surface or allow moisture into the mechanism.

It should not be assumed to be weatherproof based on its decorative faceplate. For outdoor areas, bathrooms, utility spaces or locations exposed to dust, condensation or water, verify the product's declared IP rating and the protection required for the installation zone. Where necessary, use a suitable weatherproof enclosure or select an outdoor-rated switch designed for UAE heat, dust and moisture conditions.

Installation should comply with the applicable UAE electrical regulations, approved project specifications and the requirements of the relevant local authority, such as DEWA in Dubai or the authority serving the project location. Wiring practices are commonly based on BS 7671 principles where adopted, together with local rules covering circuit protection, earthing, conductor identification, mounting boxes, inspection and testing. Final compliance must be confirmed by a licensed electrical contractor.

Confirm that three gangs are required, determine whether each circuit needs one-way or two-way control and verify that the connected lighting loads are compatible with the 10AX rating. Also check the required mounting box, wall depth, wiring capacity, matching Inora accessories and royal gold finish. For replacement work, compare the existing box arrangement and conductor configuration rather than relying only on the visible faceplate size.

Before wall finishing, confirm the switch-box position, alignment, depth and conduit capacity against the approved electrical drawings. Keep the box free from plaster, paint and construction debris, provide sufficient conductor length and separate circuits as required. During final fixing, avoid overtightening the faceplate, verify secure terminations and complete continuity, insulation-resistance, polarity and functional tests in accordance with the project testing procedure.
