Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Millenium AM11644-ST is a stainless steel, flush-mounted double half rocker switch featuring a 2 gang, 2 way configuration. It is rated at 20AX and 250V AC, allowing two separate compatible lighting circuits to be controlled, including from two locations when correctly paired with suitable 2 way switches.

“2 gang” means the unit has two rocker controls for operating two independent circuits. “2 way” means each circuit can be wired so that it is controlled from two different locations, such as at both ends of a corridor or at the entrance and bedside of a room.

The 20AX marking is a switching rating intended for compatible lighting loads, including loads that can produce higher inrush current than a purely resistive load. The actual connected load must remain within the manufacturer’s limits, and LED drivers, fluorescent control gear, contactors and other equipment should be checked for switching compatibility and inrush characteristics.

The switch is rated at 250V AC, making it suitable for appropriately designed circuits operating at the UAE’s nominal 230V AC supply. Product selection and installation must comply with the applicable UAE authority requirements, project specifications and local wiring regulations, such as those stipulated by DEWA, ADDC or the relevant emirate authority.

Yes. Each gang can form part of a separate 2 way lighting circuit, enabling two lighting loads or lighting groups to be controlled from two locations. A suitable corresponding 2 way switch and the correct interconnecting conductors are required for each circuit.

It is suitable for premium residential, hospitality, office and commercial interiors, including villas, apartments, hotel rooms, corridors, staircases, meeting rooms and reception areas. Its 2 way functionality is especially useful where lighting control is required at two access points.

The switch is designed for flush mounting, with the mechanism and fixed wiring positioned inside a compatible concealed wall box. Installation generally involves isolating and verifying the electrical supply, identifying the common and traveller conductors, terminating them according to ABB’s wiring diagram, securing the mechanism, fitting the compatible frame or cover components and testing both gangs. Installation should be completed by a qualified electrician.

The listed product dimensions are approximately 42 x 86 x 86 mm, with an 86 mm face width. Before installation, confirm the compatible ABB Millenium mounting box, support components, frame and required box depth. Adequate space should be allowed for cable bending, secure termination and safe conductor separation without compressing the wiring.

The switch is intended to be completed with compatible ABB Millenium mounting and finishing components. Package contents can vary by product configuration, so buyers should confirm whether the matching frame, support and wall box are supplied or must be ordered separately before installation.

It should not automatically be treated as a socket control switch or appliance isolator merely because it carries a 20AX rating. It is specified as a rocker switch for compatible switching circuits. For water heaters, air conditioners, motors and other fixed appliances, use the isolator, double-pole switch or control device required by the equipment manufacturer, circuit design and local regulations.

It can be used with compatible LED lighting circuits when the total load and LED-driver inrush current are within the switch manufacturer’s permitted limits. On large LED circuits or projects with multiple drivers, an electrician or electrical engineer should assess the inrush current and use a suitably rated contactor or control device where necessary.

The stainless steel appearance suits modern interiors, but a stainless steel finish does not by itself make the switch weatherproof or suitable for wet areas. For bathrooms, external walls, gardens or exposed locations, verify the required IP rating, installation zone and local electrical regulations. Use an appropriately rated weatherproof accessory where moisture, dust or direct water exposure is possible.

Contractors should verify the 2 gang and 2 way circuit requirement, 20AX and 250V AC ratings, connected-load characteristics, compatible ABB Millenium frame and wall box, available mounting depth, conductor sizes, earthing provisions and finish schedule. The specification should also be coordinated with approved shop drawings, authority requirements and the project’s electrical consultant.

After secure termination and reassembly, a qualified electrician should perform the inspections and electrical tests required by the project and applicable local regulations. These may include protective-conductor continuity where applicable, insulation resistance, polarity, terminal security and functional testing of both gangs from every control location before handover.

Isolate the circuit before maintenance and wipe the visible surface with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents, acidic cleaners and excessive water, as these can damage the finish or enter the mechanism. Loose operation, heat marks, buzzing or intermittent switching should be inspected promptly by a qualified electrician.
