Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL318-G is a single-gang data outlet designed to provide one CAT.6a network connection in residential, commercial and construction projects. It features a classic grey finish and is suitable for organised Ethernet cabling installations in offices, villas, apartments, hotels, retail spaces and other UAE properties.

CAT.6a structured cabling is designed to support data rates of up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet over a compliant channel length of up to 100 metres and bandwidth up to 500 MHz. Actual performance depends on using compatible CAT.6a cable, connectors, patch panels and patch cords, followed by correct termination and certified field testing.

Yes, it is suitable for structured cabling in UAE residential, commercial and hospitality developments where a CAT.6a outlet is specified. Contractors should confirm that the complete installation complies with the project consultant's requirements, applicable local authority regulations and recognised cabling standards such as ISO/IEC 11801 or ANSI/TIA-568.2-D.

It can be installed at network points for computers, smart televisions, IP phones, wireless access points, printers, CCTV equipment and compatible building-management devices. Common applications include offices, meeting rooms, server-area outlets, villas, apartments, schools, hotels and retail units.

Installation should be completed by a qualified ELV or structured-cabling technician. The installer should route the specified CAT.6a cable to the outlet box, maintain the correct bend radius, remove only the necessary amount of cable jacket, preserve pair twisting close to the termination, terminate conductors according to the selected T568A or T568B scheme, secure the outlet and fit the front plate. The completed link should then be labelled and tested with a suitable cable certifier.

Either T568A or T568B may be used when supported by the termination module, but the same wiring scheme must be maintained at both ends of the cable. UAE contractors should follow the approved project specification and the existing site standard; T568B is common in many commercial installations, but consistency is more important than the scheme selected.

Use compliant CAT.6a cable of the shielding type specified for the project. The outlet module, cable, patch panel and patch cords should be compatible as one structured-cabling system. Cable conductor size, solid or stranded construction, shielding and termination method must be checked against ABB installation documentation before installation.

A properly installed CAT.6a channel can carry both network data and Power over Ethernet for compatible equipment such as IP cameras, access points and VoIP phones. PoE capability depends on the complete cabling system, conductor quality, bundle size, temperature conditions and the connected network equipment. For higher-power PoE installations, designers should assess heat rise and cable-bundling limits.

Confirm the mounting-box format, available depth, fixing points, cable-entry position and compatibility with the selected ABB Inora accessories. Adequate back-box depth is important because CAT.6a cable is relatively thick and must not be sharply bent or compressed behind the socket. Product dimensions and included components should be verified against the approved material submittal.

Data cabling should be separated from power circuits in accordance with the approved project design and applicable UAE electrical and ELV requirements. Where power and data routes cross, they should generally cross at approximately 90 degrees. Suitable containment, segregation and earthing practices help reduce electromagnetic interference and preserve CAT.6a performance.

This type of data socket is generally intended for protected indoor locations. It should not be exposed directly to rain, dust, condensation, intense sunlight or high humidity unless installed inside a correctly rated weatherproof enclosure. For UAE outdoor or semi-outdoor areas, select an enclosure with an appropriate IP rating and use outdoor-rated cable where required.

Basic continuity testing can identify open circuits, shorts and incorrect wire mapping, but a CAT.6a installation should ideally be tested with a calibrated field certifier. Testing should cover the required permanent-link or channel parameters, including insertion loss, return loss, crosstalk and length. Test reports should be retained for consultant approval, handover records and warranty documentation.

It may be physically usable in networks employing lower-category components, subject to connector compatibility, but the overall channel will perform only to the rating of its lowest-category component. To achieve CAT.6a performance, every component in the channel must be CAT.6a compliant and correctly installed and certified.

Keep network cable away from sharp edges, excessive pulling force, tight cable ties, small bend radii and heat sources. Protect outlet boxes from plaster, paint, dust and moisture during finishing works. Cables should be labelled at both ends, and final termination and certification should be completed after heavy construction activities are substantially finished.

A 1 gang outlet provides a neat, dedicated network point where only one Ethernet connection is required. CAT.6a supports high-bandwidth applications and offers useful capacity for modern offices, smart homes, streaming, cloud services, Wi-Fi access points and IP-based building systems, provided the entire cabling channel is designed and tested to CAT.6a requirements.
