Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL318 is a single-gang CAT.6a data outlet designed to provide a fixed network connection point in residential, commercial and construction projects. Its white finish suits modern interiors, while the one-gang configuration provides a neat termination point for one compatible structured-cabling data connection.

CAT.6a structured cabling is designed to support data rates of up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet over a maximum 100-metre channel when every component in the link, including the cable, data module, patch panel and patch cords, is correctly installed and CAT.6a compliant. Actual performance depends on the complete cabling system rather than the socket alone.

This data socket is suitable for offices, apartments, villas, hotels, schools, retail units, control rooms and other indoor spaces requiring a fixed Ethernet point. Typical connections include computers, smart televisions, IP phones, wireless access points, network printers, CCTV network equipment and building-management devices.

Yes, it is suitable for structured-cabling installations in UAE residential and commercial developments when selected and installed according to the project specification. Contractors should also follow the requirements of the relevant consultant, developer, telecom service provider and local authority, as acceptance criteria can differ between projects and emirates.

Installation should be completed by a qualified low-voltage or structured-cabling technician. Isolate nearby electrical circuits, fit a compatible CAT.6a cable and module arrangement, terminate conductors according to the marked T568A or T568B scheme, secure the cable without crushing or excessive bending, mount the assembly in a compatible box and fit the faceplate level with the finished wall. Use the same wiring scheme at both ends of the permanent link.

Either T568A or T568B may be used if it is permitted by the project specification and applied consistently at both ends of the cable. T568B is common in many commercial installations, but the approved consultant drawings, existing site standard and client requirements should determine the scheme.

Use genuine CAT.6a installation cable whose construction matches the socket or data-module specification and the required shielding design. The cable, connector, patch panel and patch leads should belong to a compatible CAT.6a system. Solid-conductor cable is generally used for permanent building links, while stranded cable is normally reserved for patch cords.

A connection may be physically possible in some system configurations, but the installed link will perform only to the rating of its lowest-category component. To obtain CAT.6a performance, use CAT.6a-rated cable, connectors, patch panels and patch cords throughout the channel and verify the completed link through certification testing.

Network cabling should be separated from mains power cables and sources of electromagnetic interference in accordance with the approved design and applicable cabling regulations. Where data and power routes must cross, they should generally cross at approximately 90 degrees. Avoid sharing unsuitable containment, overfilling conduits or running cable close to high-load equipment unless the design provides adequate separation and protection.

A basic continuity tester can identify open circuits, shorts, reversed pairs and split pairs, but CAT.6a project acceptance normally requires a calibrated field-certification tester. The permanent link or channel should be tested for parameters such as insertion loss, return loss, near-end crosstalk and alien-crosstalk performance where required. Test reports should be labelled and submitted with project handover documents.

Keep conductor-pair untwisting to the minimum permitted by the termination instructions, maintain the specified cable bend radius and avoid tight cable ties, sharp bends, crushing or excessive pulling force. Keep the cable jacket close to the termination, preserve shielding continuity where a shielded system is specified and avoid unnecessary cable joints. Correct workmanship is essential for reliable 10 Gigabit network performance.

This type of finished-wall data socket is generally intended for protected indoor use unless ABB documentation for the complete assembly confirms a suitable ingress-protection rating. For outdoor, wash-down, dusty or humid locations in the UAE, install it inside an appropriately rated weatherproof enclosure and use outdoor-rated cable and accessories specified for the environment.

CAT.6a installations are commonly designed and tested with reference to standards such as ISO/IEC 11801 and ANSI/TIA-568.2-D, together with the project's approved specifications. UAE projects may also impose developer, consultant, telecom-provider, civil-defence or local-authority requirements. Compliance applies to the complete installed cabling link, not only to the faceplate.

Routine maintenance is limited to keeping the surface and data port clean and checking for loose mounting or damaged connectors. Disconnect connected equipment before cleaning, use a soft dry or lightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive pads, solvents or spraying liquid directly into the port. Damaged modules, faceplates or terminations should be replaced or repaired by a competent technician.
