Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL317-G is a two-gang data socket designed to provide two wired network connection points within one wall outlet. Finished in Classic Grey, it is suitable for structured cabling installations in UAE homes, offices, commercial buildings, hotels and other construction projects requiring organised CAT.6a network access.

This socket can be used to connect desktop computers, smart TVs, IP phones, network printers, wireless access points, CCTV equipment and other Ethernet-enabled devices. Its two-port configuration is useful at workstations, meeting rooms, reception areas, hotel rooms and residential entertainment points where two fixed network connections are needed.

A correctly designed and installed CAT.6a permanent link can support data rates of up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet over channel lengths of up to 100 metres. Actual performance depends on the complete system, including the cable, data modules, patch panels, patch cords, termination quality and compliance of every component with the selected CAT.6a standard.

Yes. The two-gang arrangement is intended to accommodate two individual data outlets, allowing two separate Ethernet links to terminate at one location. Each port normally requires its own cable run back to a patch panel or network cabinet; one cable should not be split between the two ports for standard Ethernet installations.

Installation should be completed by a qualified ELV or structured cabling technician. The installer routes the correct CAT.6a cable to the outlet box, maintains the required bend radius, terminates each cable according to the module instructions and the selected T568A or T568B wiring scheme, secures the socket without crushing the cable, labels both ports and tests each completed link using suitable network certification equipment.

Either T568A or T568B may be used when supported by the installed data modules, but the same wiring scheme must be applied consistently at both ends of every cable link. T568B is common in many commercial projects, although installers should always follow the project specification, consultant requirements and the existing site standard.

Use genuine CAT.6a horizontal cable that matches the project design and the compatible termination modules. The choice between unshielded and shielded cable must be coordinated across the complete channel. If a shielded system is specified, compatible shielded modules, patch panels, patch cords and proper earthing or bonding practices are required to achieve the intended performance.

Yes. It is suitable for structured cabling work in UAE residential, commercial and hospitality developments when incorporated into an approved project design. The installation should follow the consultant's specifications, applicable local authority requirements and recognised structured cabling practices such as ISO/IEC 11801 or ANSI/TIA-568, where specified.

Yes. It can be specified for new-build electrical and ELV layouts or used during office, villa, apartment, retail and hotel refurbishments. Before installation, confirm compatibility with the selected back box, mounting arrangement, CAT.6a modules and surrounding ABB Inora wiring accessories.

Data and mains power wiring should be segregated in accordance with the project specification and applicable electrical and ELV practices. Avoid placing network cables in the same conduit as power cables unless an approved partitioned system is specifically designed for that purpose. Correct separation helps reduce electromagnetic interference and supports safe, reliable network operation.

The Classic Grey finish works well with contemporary offices, modern villas, hospitality interiors and commercial fit-outs. It can coordinate with neutral walls, exposed concrete finishes and grey electrical accessories. Designers and contractors should confirm the finish against project samples because colour appearance can vary under different indoor lighting conditions.

This type of data socket is generally intended for protected indoor locations. For outdoor, wash-down, dusty or high-humidity areas, it should only be used inside a suitably rated weather-resistant enclosure specified for the environmental conditions. UAE heat, dust, condensation and moisture exposure should be considered when selecting the enclosure and cable system.

A basic wire-map test checks continuity, pair order, shorts, opens and split pairs, but CAT.6a project handover normally requires certification with a calibrated field tester. Certification can verify parameters such as insertion loss, return loss, propagation delay and crosstalk. Each outlet should be labelled and its test report linked to the corresponding patch-panel port.

Installers should avoid sharp bends, cable crushing, excessive pulling tension and unnecessary untwisting of conductor pairs near the termination. Cable ties should not be overtightened, recommended separation from power wiring should be maintained, and each run should remain within the permitted channel length. Using compatible CAT.6a components throughout the link is essential.

It may form part of a Power over Ethernet link when all channel components are correctly rated for the required IEEE PoE application. Suitability depends on the installed cable, termination modules, patch panel, patch cords, power level, bundle size and ambient temperature. This is particularly important in warm UAE service spaces and ceiling voids, where cable derating and heat management may be required.
