Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL317 is a white, two-gang CAT.6A data socket designed to provide two wired network connection points in residential, commercial and construction projects. It is suitable for structured cabling installations where reliable, high-bandwidth Ethernet connectivity and a neat wall-mounted finish are required.

When installed as part of a fully compliant CAT.6A channel, the socket can support Ethernet speeds of up to 10 Gigabit per second over a maximum channel length of 100 metres. Actual performance depends on the cable, connectors, patch panels, patch cords, termination quality and network equipment used throughout the system.

The two-gang configuration provides two separate data connection positions at one wall location. This is useful for workstations, meeting rooms, television areas, access-control points and other locations that require two network links, such as separate connections for a computer and an IP telephone.

The BL317 is suitable for offices, villas, apartments, hotels, schools, hospitals, retail spaces, server-related areas and other structured cabling applications. It can be specified for new construction, fit-out work or network upgrades where two fixed Ethernet outlets are needed.

Installation should be completed by a qualified low-voltage or structured-cabling technician. The installer should route the specified CAT.6A cable to a compatible back box, maintain the cable's minimum bend radius, terminate each outlet according to the selected T568A or T568B wiring scheme, secure the assembly without crushing the cable and fit the faceplate level with the finished wall. The same wiring scheme must be maintained across the project.

Use genuine CAT.6A horizontal network cable and compatible CAT.6A components throughout the permanent link. The cable construction, conductor type and shielding arrangement should match the outlet hardware and project specification. Mixing lower-category or incompatible shielded and unshielded components may reduce performance and prevent the installation from achieving CAT.6A certification.

It can be used in concealed wall installations when paired with a compatible electrical or data back box and suitable conduit system. Contractors should confirm box dimensions, mounting depth and cable-entry space before installation. Data cabling should be segregated from power wiring in accordance with the project design, applicable UAE authority requirements and recognised structured cabling practices.

The complete structured cabling system should be designed and tested in line with the consultant's specification and applicable standards such as ISO/IEC 11801 or ANSI/TIA-568.2-D. UAE projects may also require compliance with local authority regulations, developer guidelines and civil defence or telecom requirements where applicable. Product compatibility should always be checked against the approved material submittal.

A correctly designed CAT.6A structured cabling link can carry data and Power over Ethernet for compatible equipment such as IP cameras, wireless access points and VoIP phones. PoE suitability depends on the complete channel, conductor size, connector rating, cable bundling, ambient temperature and the PoE standard being used. The project engineer should verify these factors, especially in warm UAE service areas.

CAT.6A is commonly selected for modern UAE offices, smart homes, hospitality developments and commercial fit-outs because it can support high-bandwidth networks and 10 Gigabit Ethernet when installed as a compliant end-to-end system. It also provides useful capacity for access points, building-management devices, IP surveillance and other connected-building applications.

Keep the twisted pairs intact as close as possible to the termination point, avoid excessive untwisting, do not kink or sharply bend the cable and prevent overtightening of cable ties. Follow the connector's termination instructions and use the correct punch-down or termination tool. For shielded systems, bonding and earthing must be completed according to the system design and applicable standards.

Each installed link should be checked for wire map, continuity, pair faults and correct outlet identification. For contractual CAT.6A compliance, use a calibrated field certification tester to assess the permanent link or channel against the required CAT.6A test limit. Test reports should be labelled by outlet and retained as part of the project's testing and commissioning documentation.

The BL317 is primarily suited to protected indoor locations unless the approved ABB documentation states otherwise. For outdoor, dusty, wet or high-humidity UAE environments, install it inside an appropriately rated enclosure or select a dedicated weather-resistant data outlet. The enclosure's IP rating and material should match the site's exposure conditions.

Confirm the model number BL317, white finish, required number of outlets, compatible back-box dimensions and whether the project uses shielded or unshielded CAT.6A cabling. Buyers should also verify compatibility with the selected ABB Inora wiring accessories and ensure that all cables, patch panels, modules and patch cords meet the approved structured cabling specification.

Keep the faceplate clean and dry, remove dust with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive or solvent-based cleaners. Inspect ports periodically for physical damage, loose mounting or contaminated contacts. Disconnect patch cords by pressing the plug latch rather than pulling the cable, and retest the network link after renovation work or if performance problems occur.
