Frequently Asked Questions

The ABB Inora BL107-885 is a three-gang wall switch from the Inora range, finished in Starry Black. Its three independent rockers allow three lighting circuits or compatible loads to be controlled from one switch position. Each gang has two-way switching functionality and a 10AX rating, making the unit suitable for residential, commercial and hospitality electrical installations when correctly specified and installed.

Three gang means the faceplate contains three separately operated switches. Two way means each circuit can be controlled from two locations when the switch is paired and wired with another compatible two-way switch. The 10AX designation indicates a 10 A switching rating with additional suitability for certain inductive lighting loads. Actual load suitability must still be checked against the connected lamps, drivers, ballasts and manufacturer specifications.

It can be used to control multiple lighting zones in villas, apartments, offices, shops, hotels and other buildings. Typical applications include controlling separate ceiling lights, decorative lights and corridor lights from one location. Its two-way function is especially useful beside staircases, in corridors, at room entrances and in larger spaces where a lighting circuit needs control from two positions.

The switch is designed for standard low-voltage building applications, but project suitability must be confirmed by the electrical consultant or contractor. In the UAE, installation should follow the applicable requirements of the relevant authority, such as DEWA, ADDC or the local emirate's utility regulations, together with approved project specifications and applicable wiring standards. System voltage, load type, back-box compatibility and required product approvals should be verified before installation.

It may be used with compatible LED lighting circuits, provided the total operating current and the LED driver's switching characteristics are within the permitted limits. LED drivers can produce high inrush current even when their normal wattage is low, so the number and type of drivers must be checked rather than relying only on total lamp wattage. For large LED loads, contactors, relays or dedicated control devices may be required.

Installation should be completed by a licensed electrician with the circuit isolated, locked out where required and proven dead using suitable test equipment. Each gang is wired according to the intended one-way or two-way circuit arrangement, using the identified common and traveller terminals shown on the product markings or ABB instructions. Conductors must be correctly sized, terminated securely and arranged without damaging insulation. The mechanism is then fixed squarely into a compatible concealed or surface back box, the faceplate is fitted and the circuit is electrically tested before energisation.

Yes, a two-way switch mechanism can generally be configured for one-way control by using the common terminal and one of the switched terminals for each gang. The unused terminal remains unconnected. Terminal identification must be confirmed on the actual product, and all wiring should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with the circuit design and local electrical regulations.

A conventional mechanical wall switch normally interrupts the live conductor and does not usually require a neutral connection at the switch position. However, the exact wiring arrangement depends on the circuit design, back-box wiring and any connected control equipment. The protective earth must be handled correctly, and neutral conductors must never be assumed based only on cable colour without testing and verification.

Use a back box that matches the switch dimensions, mounting centres and project wiring system. Adequate box depth is important for three-gang and two-way wiring because multiple conductors and traveller wires may be present. Before ordering in quantity, verify the ABB Inora dimensional drawing, terminal clearance and compatibility with the back boxes installed on site. Do not force the mechanism into a shallow or overcrowded box.

The Starry Black finish is well suited to contemporary indoor interiors, including villas, offices, hotel rooms and retail spaces. It should not be installed in exposed outdoor, wet or dusty locations unless the complete assembly has an appropriate verified IP rating and is housed in a suitable weatherproof enclosure. For bathrooms, kitchens and external areas, follow the applicable electrical-zone, ingress-protection and local authority requirements.

Before final fixing, confirm that the back box is level, securely installed and flush with the finished wall surface. Check that plaster, paint and debris have been removed from the box, conductor identification matches the approved drawings, cable insulation is undamaged and sufficient conductor length is available for safe termination. The electrician should also verify circuit protection, earthing, polarity, insulation resistance, continuity and functional two-way switching as part of testing and commissioning.

Isolate the electrical supply before inspection or maintenance. Clean the faceplate with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth and avoid abrasive pads, solvents, strong chemicals and excessive water, as these may damage the finish or enter the mechanism. If a rocker becomes loose, operates intermittently, overheats, discolours or produces unusual sounds, stop using the circuit and have it inspected by a qualified electrician.

The BL107-885 is primarily intended as a lighting control switch. It should not be used to control socket outlets, high-load appliances, motors or heavy construction equipment unless ABB documentation and the electrical design specifically confirm suitability for that load. Motor and inductive loads can have high starting currents and may require a correctly rated isolator, fan controller, relay or contactor.

Contractors should verify the model number, Starry Black finish, three-gang configuration, two-way functionality, 10AX rating, operating voltage compatibility, back-box dimensions and connected load characteristics. They should also check project consultant approval, authority requirements, required conformity documentation, indoor environmental conditions and coordination with the selected ABB Inora accessories. A sample installation is recommended for projects requiring consistent alignment and finish across multiple rooms.
