    Key Features

    • Kiswel 6013 2.6mm welding rod.
    • Suitable for general welding.
    • Low-hydrogen coating.
    • Gas shielded arc welding.

Features & Benefits

The ESAB 7018 2.5mm welding rod is a flux-cored wire, designed to produce low-hydrogen deposits with excellent mechanical properties. The welding rods is suitable for all-position welding. It has a tensile strength of 70KSI.

The 7018 2.5mm welding rod offers superior arc stability and produces higher deposition rates than solid electrodes. It delivers excellent weld value with high crack resistance and ductility.

The welding rod produces DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive) or Reverse Polarity Welds, both of which help minimise the hydrogen content in the weld metal. Additionally, the rod produces exceptionally clean welds with good arc weave and steel bead.

ESAB 7018 2.5mm welding rod is designed to give excellent performance with either AC or DC. It is suitable for a wide range of materials, such as mild steel, medium carbon steel, stainless steel and low alloy steel.

Frequently Asked Questions

ESAB 7018 2.5mm is a low-hydrogen flux-coated electrode designed for high-quality welds on steel. It provides excellent ductility, crack resistance, and all-position suitability, making it ideal for structural joints and heavy-wardon steel applications.

Key specs include a tensile strength around 70 ksi, all-position welding capability, low-hydrogen deposit, stable arc, and good deposition. It is suitable for a wide range of steels, including mild steel, medium carbon steel, stainless steel, and low-alloy steels. It supports AC and DC welding with polarity options to minimize hydrogen.

Yes, ESAB 7018 2.5mm works with both AC and DC currents. For reducing hydrogen content and achieving clean, crack-resistant welds, use DCEP (Direct Current Electrode Positive) or reverse polarity as appropriate for your setup.

This rod is suitable for all-position welding, including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead joints.

It is suitable for a broad range of steels, including mild steel, medium carbon steel, stainless steel, and low-alloy steels, offering good ductility and crack resistance across these materials.

Begin with clean, properly prepared base metal and ensure the electrode is dry and stored correctly. Use appropriate shielding conditions for your process, maintain a stable arc, and follow manufacturer guidelines for interpass temperatures and pole alignment to maximize deposition and minimize defects.

ESAB 7018 2.5mm offers higher strength (approximately 70 ksi), all-position capability, and low-hydrogen deposits, making it better for structural joints with tougher requirements. Kiswel 6013 2.6mm is typically easier to use for general welding with good weldability but generally provides lower strength and ductility compared to 7018. For a direct comparison on Fepy, see Kiswel 6013 2.6mm here: https://fepy.com/product/kiswel-6013-2-6mm-welding-rod

Both are 7018 low-hydrogen electrodes designed for high-strength welds, but performance can vary with coating quality, slag removal, and deposition rate. If you’re choosing between brands, consider weldability, arc stability, and joint requirements. Store the rod in a dry, sealed container or desiccated environment when not in use. Keep moisture out to maintain low-hydrogen properties, and re-dry if exposed to humidity or moisture before welding.

Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including a welding helmet, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing. Ensure proper ventilation to avoid exposure to welding fumes, keep the work area clear of combustibles, and store electrodes away from moisture to prevent hydrogen-related defects.

If your project requires high-strength, crack-resistant welds with good ductility and all-position capability, ESAB 7018 2.5mm offers strong performance and reliability. Its low-hydrogen deposits can reduce rework and improve weld integrity, delivering good long-term value for structural applications.

Consider joint type, materials, required weld strength, and environment. If you need high strength and all-position capability with low hydrogen, ESAB 7018 2.5mm is a strong choice. For general welding or easier handling, alternatives like Kiswel 6013 (2.6mm) may be more suitable. Compare deposit strength, ductility, and compatibility with your base metals when making a decision.
